the end of enchantment

How did you come into this world?

Were you born as an infant to human parents?

Did you fly here from another place?

Did God find you among waiting souls and place you in your new body?

Did you create this world and find yourself in it?
Well that's pretty absurd. You mean the whole universe???
Look at it this way: Did you ever have a dream?
Oh, I see what you mean...

So how did you come? What do you remember?
I can't remember much...
Just a few events when I was very small...
Well how do you expect me to remember anything? My brain was very young and I wasn't recording memories. But everybody knows how we come here!

Yes, and what they told you makes perfect sense.

But what if you dreamed them up too? What difference would it make what they told you?

To believe everything you are told is what we are going to call Enchantment.

Above all, to identify with the description of yourself that has been taught to you -- by anyone, including those whom you believe to be authorities -- THIS IS Enchantment!

How can this happen? Why would I create a set of authorities who then tell me lies about who and what I am, and then why would I believe them and identify with their fabrication?

But let's be careful with our assumptions. Maybe I don't actually do that. That would mean, in these terms, "not enchanted". And what is described here does not apply to my world. Who knows what this website is even doing in my world?

Something to think about. But... perhaps I do have a little bit of this enchantment. If so, I may not yet be perfect or I wouldn't do this... enchantment thing. I'm good, but I must have some work to do.

That work would be the beginning of The End of Enchantment.

How does one accomplish it? Try to remember. It is not impossible. You have the present set of pages to assist you.

If you have not looked at them yet, we're not even going to attempt to tell you what lies in store. You wouldn't believe it. We suggest that they are a breakthrough.

Perhaps you will agree with this assertion; perhaps not.

At the very least, they may be interesting, enjoyable, or more...
