The term "paradigm" is used advisedly. Fields of study have their paradigms, but these develop organically and are rarely explicitly stated. Nevertheless, classical SETI has a distinct paradigm that guides virtually all thinking, observing methodologies, and exposition in that field. There probably would be little disagreement with the "terms" or elements of the paradigm as set out in the first table.
Stating a paradigm for Open SETI is problematic as there is at present only the germ of a loosely-defined community practicing and dialoging about variations on the idea of Open SETI. This website is a call for others to contribute their ideas to such a community. The Open SETI paradigm delineated in the second table is but a suggestion of the possibilities, waiting to be discussed, perhaps debated, and refined.
What justifies the terms of the Open SETI paradigm as they are expressed here? This excellent and most appropriate question is perhaps best answered by stating what Open SETI IS: an attempt to understand our humanity's place in a larger cosmic setting that includes other instances of intelligent societies. Open SETI calls for an unfettered examination of data without the usual strictures that our society is fond of imposing.
The elements of the paradigm are not simply dreamed up, but are actually based on resources, some of which are listed throughout the Open SETI pages. The study of these resources as represented on this website does not pretend to be exhaustive; it is ongoing and growing.

Most paradigm table elements contain links to relevant or supporting pages or passages in Open SETI (usually) or resources on the Internet. When clicked, for most browsers, the linked material will appear in a subsidiary or an auxiliary frame. This allows the "At a Glance" page to function as a navigation tool, organized according to levels of the paradigms.
